Donating Plasma: why donate?

Plasma that meets the strict safety requirements of the FDA and Talecris Plasma Resources contains various proteins that are used to manufacture life-enhancing and life-saving, plasma-derived, prescription drugs. These plasma protein therapies can be used to manage serious and often life-threatening conditions, including

  • infection and shock
  • blood loss due to trauma, burns, and surgery
  • immune disorders
  • hepatitis, tetanus, and rabies exposure
  • lung disease caused by an inherited deficiency of the alpha-1 antitrypsin protein
  • and hemophilia and other coagulation disorders.

Because of the time committment necessary for a donor to provide plasma (generally one to two hours for repeat donors), a financial compensation is made to the donor.
